Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF JOB The Short-Term Planner is primarily responsible for the development of the Mine Operations and Support Team rolling operational plan. The Short-Term Planner is also responsible to develop daily and weekly plans, designs and schedules and to ensure that all the required designs are ready on a timely manner for the execution of the plan and aligned in such a way as to reduce departmental interactions in the mine and promote efficient work scheduling.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES AND DUTIES OF JOB HOLDER Safety, Health & Environment:
- Promote, lead, and demonstrate safe behaviors at all times
- Comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department/company standards
- Demonstrate leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives
- Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including self, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
- Develop plans and schedules in consideration of statutory requirements
- Awareness and understanding of Nyrstar and TN Mine operations related to standards including specific governance and local legislative requirements
Function/ Production:
Key technical outputs :
- Developing the weekly (7+21) plan to achieve the Rolling 3-month plan (RoFo)
- Generating drill and blast designs
- Developing short terms level designs
- Developing waste/back filling plans if required
- Work closely with Mine Operations, Geology, Survey, Geotech and Mine Design when developing the mine plans and schedule
- Undertaking regular Underground site visits to ensure that execution is compliant to the plan
- Attend safety meetings and demonstrate safely leadership
- Assist in development of SOPs and JSEA procedures
- Work closely with senior mine planner to ensure that the 7+21 plan is complaint to the ROFO plan
- Complete the weekly and daily compliance to plan and support the UG Mine Manager and Shift Boss in the reporting and meeting space
Team Relationships: - Work closely with the engineering, geology and Mine Operations team to develop a robust mine plans, designs and schedules
- Operate within the ROFO mine plan and aim to exceed the ROFO KPIs when developing schedule
- Ensure integration with maintenance and other departmental planners to ensure mine plan is achievable and based on reasonable estimates and timelines.
- Ensure all work is planned in advance and everyone on the team is able to know what their plan is.
Systems: - Ensure that the 7+21 mine plan is compliant to the approved template provided by the senior planner
- Ensure that the compliance to plan is developed and compliant to the MOS
- Operate within the MOS and drive compliance in all interactions
Major objectives Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Nyrstar values are lived by the team
- Effective communication between operations team, trades support team and technical team
- Reporting / communication is transparent, verified and timely
- Activities completed on time
- Activities completed within budget
- All activity is performed within established ethical standards
- Assist in the development and delivery of the annual budget and life of mine production plan
- Operate within budget as stipulated by the Technical & Mine Manager and General Manager
- Compliance with Nyrstar and Tennessee Mine Operations’ policies and procedures and MSHA regulations
- Implementation of agreed strategies
- Delivery of agreed outcomes aligned with the overall business plan and values
- Responsible for negotiating with and managing contractors.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS (formal certifications, etc.) Essential
- Experience in Underground mine planning and scheduling
Desirable
- Tertiary Qualifications in a Mining Related Discipline
- Experience in driving best practice through your department and into the business.
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes
- Track record in driving continuous improvement
