Job Description
Estate Planning Consultation Attorney (NC Licensed) (Chapel Hill Office)
Are you an estate planning attorney who wishes he/she was doing a lot more client meetings and consultations and a lot less estate plan drafting? Are you an extrovert who is energized be giving advice and educating people on their estate planning options?
A rapidly growing estate planning firm with offices in Cary, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest is seeking to add a motivated, client-facing, team-oriented Estate Planning Lawyer to help grow our Chapel Hill office.
We are seeking an experienced North Carolina-licensed Estate Planning Lawyer with at least five years (5) years of progressive experience in estate planning and probate. This lawyer must be capable of managing client matters with autonomy and minimal oversight but is comfortable working within an existing, proven team-based practice model. This is a client-facing, consultation and plan design-centered role with minimal estate plan drafting responsibility. Emotional intelligence, active listening, and a dedication to client-first planning is required.
As a family-focused flexible, hybrid work environment, Cary Estate Planning offers a competitive salary and compensation package with incentives for production and performance. We are a team-oriented firm with a focus on providing client-centered, relationship-driven estate planning services to individuals, families, and business owners in the Wake County area and throughout the state of North Carolina. We are growth-minded and focused on expanding throughout the state in the near future.
We are a high-growth company, so the ideal candidate is excited by change, is agile and nimble and willing to pivot. The ideal candidate is motivated by growth and does not want a boring, same-everyday role. This is not the right fit for someone who does not like change, is rigid, and prefers a role that will be consistent year-over-year.
We put the client experience and relationship with our firm first, above all else, and we’re looking for an attorney who enjoys:
• Working directly with clients in creating and implementing comprehensive and complex estate planning strategies and funding of the same
• Overseeing the completion of client legal plans including Wills, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Deeds, and Corporate Documents
• Working as part of a team
• Legal technology and innovation
• Pushing against the status quo and focusing on the practical aspects of estate planning
• Always doing the right thing for clients
• Open and transparent feedback and communication, and being rewarded for exceeding expectations
The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in law firms that practice estate planning and probate as the primary or only practice area(s), meeting with clients and involvement in consultation meetings, experience drafting and reviewing estate plans, and conducting signing meetings. The ideal candidate will be a stellar ambassador for the firm in all client interactions.
We are seeking a candidate with progressive experience, not someone who has had a year of experience five times over. We expect candidates to be able to describe completely the intention and purpose of different estate planning strategies, including special needs planning and Medicaid planning strategies. The ideal candidate thinks outside the box and can diagnose any poorly drafted or implemented estate plan without issue, and recommend opportunities to remedy the issues. The ideal candidate will eventually lead a branch office as well.
The ideal candidate will be driven to exceed expectations and contribute to the growth of the firm in a meaningful way. Compensation for the right candidate will include:
• Competitive Salary
• Bonuses based on reaching individually assigned key performance indicators
• PTO
• 401k with generous employer match
• Health insurance (employee premium paid 100%)
• Long-term and short-term disability (employee premium paid 100%)
• Dental and Vision Insurance (employee premium paid 100%)
• Flexible and fun working environment
• Never wear a suit or tie again
We’re looking for a leader who will be with us for the long haul. If that’s you, we look forward to speaking with you soon!
Responsibilities:
• Being a direct point of contact for clients on the creation and implementation of their respective estate planning strategy in a way that will make the client want to leave a 5-star Google Review with your name in it
• Advising clients about their estate planning options, the pros, and cons of each strategy, and providing a fiduciary recommendation from a "down-to-earth" perspective that clients will understand and appreciate
• Being a mentor to lesser-experienced team members and an advocate for team member growth and education
• Contributing to the success of the team even if it means going outside of your job description
• Keeping unneeded drama out of the office and contributing to our solid team culture
• Helping to grow the firm's presence throughout the Triangle and the State of North Carolina
• Helping to grow the Chapel Hill office and market, ultimately to lead that branch location.
Qualifications:
• Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina (PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU ARE LICENSED IN NORTH CAROLINA)
• Able to work in-person at our office in Chapel Hill, NC on a hybrid work schedule
• Great conversation and communication skills
• At least 5 years of progressive experience working with estate planning and probate matters at a law firm that focuses on estate planning and probate
• High emotional intelligence
• Business and tech-savvy or a quick learner
• Experience and comfort with one-on-one consultation meetings with clients on your own
